The Foundation reviews and supports projects whose purposes are consistent with our charitable mission and whose conduct reflects our values.

Funding currently unavailable. The Foundation is in its first year of operation and is not presently accepting funded grant applications. We are sharing our criteria and process here so that prospective applicants can prepare. We expect to open a formal request for proposals as resources permit. What We Support

The kinds of projects we fund.

The Foundation supports educational, scientific, and humanitarian activities consistent with our 501(c)(3) charitable purpose. Eligible projects span medical education, international exchange, ethics training, and capacity-building in underserved settings.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered, a proposal must:

  1. Advance medical, educational, ethical, or humanitarian purposes consistent with the Foundation's 501(c)(3) mission.
  2. Demonstrate clear public benefit, including capacity-building in underserved regions or among learners with limited access to resources.
  3. Reflect the Foundation's core values — integrity in conduct, compassion in service, excellence in execution, equity in access, and curiosity in innovation.
  4. Include measurable goals and mechanisms for accountability.
Approval Process

How proposals are reviewed.

  1. Submission. Once a request for proposals is open, applicants will submit a written proposal to the Board.
  2. Review. The Board evaluates proposals for mission alignment, financial integrity, and potential impact.
  3. Vote. Approval requires a majority vote of the full Board of Directors.
  4. Documentation. All decisions are recorded in meeting minutes and retained in the Foundation's records.
  5. Monitoring. Approved programs include follow-up reporting, impact assessment, and financial accountability measures.

All proposals are evaluated in accordance with the Foundation's Grant-Making & Program Policy, available on request.

Standards of Conduct

What we expect of those we support.

All Foundation programs and grants are conducted in accordance with our Statement of Values. Grants must not promote or fund any activity inconsistent with the principles of fairness, transparency, and respect for human dignity. Recipients are expected to act with honesty, inclusivity, and professionalism — reflecting the spirit of Athena Sophia.

Grants must demonstrate clear public benefit, and reflect integrity in conduct, compassion in service, excellence in execution, equity in access, and curiosity in innovation.
