Medicine • Education • Ethics

Where wisdom meets the practice of medicine.

The Athena Sophia Medical and Ethical Foundation supports the education of physicians and allied health professionals through international exchange, ethical inquiry, and humanistic learning.

Our Mission

Medicine as both a science and a moral vocation.

The Athena Sophia Medical and Ethical Foundation is a New York-based 501(c)(3) public charity organized to promote ethical excellence, humanistic education, and international collaboration in medicine. We fund educational rotations, cross-cultural exchanges, and learning experiences that join clinical competence with conscience.

Named in memory of a beloved companion — and for Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom — the Foundation reflects a conviction that the best medicine is practiced not only with skill, but with humility, compassion, and care.

Our Values

Seven principles that guide our work.

Integrity. Humanism. Equity. Compassion. Respect. Excellence. Curiosity. These principles, formally adopted by our Board, shape every program we support and every partnership we enter.

Currently Supporting

Emergency Medicine International Rotation, Romania

Our founding program supports U.S.-based emergency medical personnel — residents, attending physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, respiratory therapists, paramedics, and allied health professionals — participating in structured clinical rotations in Romania.

Conducted in partnership with the emergency departments at Spitalul Clinic Judeţean de Urgenţă in Târgu Mureş and Oradea, the program advances mutual learning, strengthens emergency and critical care capacity, and models professionalism rooted in compassion, respect, and service.
